Accessibility Statement

Effective date:

We want everyone to be able to find a home through this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control. This page says what we are aiming for, what we have actually done, what still needs work, and how to tell us when something is not working.

Our target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These are the standards most commonly used to judge whether a website is accessible, and the ones referenced in claims brought under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What we have done

As of the effective date above, we have made the following specific changes to this website:

  • Every field on the rental application is now properly associated with its visible label, so screen readers announce what each box is for. Required fields are announced as required.
  • Validation errors are announced when they appear, and each error is programmatically linked to the field it belongs to.
  • A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page, so you can jump past the navigation.
  • Every page has a main landmark region.
  • Visible focus outlines are shown on everything you can reach with a keyboard, and are never removed.
  • The photo slideshow on the home page has a pause button, and it does not animate at all if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Photographs of properties have descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise.
  • Buttons and links say what they do — the “Apply Now” buttons on listing cards name the property, and photo viewer controls are labeled.
  • Text and background colors were measured rather than eyeballed, and adjusted where they fell below the 4.5:1 minimum. The overlay behind the home page headline was darkened so the text stays readable against every photo in the slideshow.
  • The site can be used at 320 pixels wide — roughly 400% zoom on a laptop — without horizontal scrolling.

We do not use an accessibility overlay

Some websites install a third-party widget that claims to make a site accessible automatically. We deliberately have not done that. Those tools frequently fail to fix the underlying problems and can interfere with the screen reader or other assistive technology you already use. We fix the website's own code instead.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what is not fixed than claim the site is perfect:

  • Property descriptions and photograph alternative text are written by hand when a listing is added, so their quality can vary between listings. If a listing is unclear, call us and we will describe the property to you.
  • The private administrative area used by the property manager has not been audited to the same standard. It is not available to the public.
  • We have tested with automated checks and manual keyboard testing. We have not yet completed testing with every combination of screen reader and browser.

If something does not work, tell us

If any part of this website stops you from finding a property, understanding a listing, or completing an application, contact us and we will help you directly — and fix the website.

Phone: 618-535-6588
Email: Rj8lu3@gmail.com

Please tell us the page you were on and what happened. We aim to respond within one week (seven calendar days).

You never have to use this website to apply for a home with us. If it is easier for you, call us and we will take your application over the phone or arrange another way to get it to you.

Reasonable accommodations

Separately from this website, if you have a disability and need a reasonable accommodation or modification in order to apply for or live in one of our properties, tell us. We handle those requests under the Fair Housing Act and the Illinois Human Rights Act.
